How to stay fit without doing much

You’re probably searching for ways how to get fit without giving much effort. But first, we need to know what is your definition of being fit. Is it having a very toned body with a six-pack? If it is, then you may want to put in more effort aside from a regimen of exercise there is also your diet and rest.

For the team, being fit means that you have the energy to do your daily task, you’re eating the right balance of healthy foods as well as junk foods. Being active but still lazy can be a couch potato but can still run laps or do a 10km bike run with little or no exhaustion.

These exercises we’re about to mention can help you keep fit and healthy, but at the same time, they’re not interfering with your daily life and schedules. Want to learn more?

Let’s get started.

When you wake up in the morning after a good night’s rest your body instinctively stretches and yawns. If you want a simple exercise, then stretching is the way to go, take a few minutes and stretch your neck, arms, body, thigh, and feet. This exercise if you add it to your morning routine helps improve blood flow.

Breathing exercises

As we all know, deep breathing exercises help calm the mind and body, it helps release the stress and tension building up. For just 5 minutes a day, you can try this relaxing exercise. You can do this while at work, or even while watching tv.

  1.  Start either in a seated or standing position
  2. Take a deep breath through the nose at let it fill your lungs.
  3. Hold your breath for about 2 secs.
  4. Exhale slowly through your mouth, your lips poised as if you’re whistling.

Make walking fun, make it an adventure you’ll be surprised how far you’ve walked. Every morning, I bring my daughter to school and since her school is just 2 blocks away we walk, I also bring my youngest daughter in a stroller, we usually walk, do sprints, imagine we’re on a tight rope, skip and hop. It may be entertaining to my daughters, but I take it seriously as it’s one of my early morning exercises. Consider parking the farthest from your office building it gives you the chance to stretch your legs for a quick walk session.

Most of the time we’d be falling in line when we’re at the counter or at the bank, or waiting for the bus. The most boring part of standing is standing still, so why not add flavour to your standing time. I would sometimes do calf exercises when waiting in line and I stand on one foot while maintaining my balance I skip a little bit. I don’t care if people find me weird, it’s my way of entertaining myself and exercising at the same time.

Doing household chores

Household chores can be boring and tiring so let that be an opportunity to be active and have some much-needed exercise. All of us have household chores, so pop some tunes and go full speed on the general cleaning. Gardening is also a great source of exercise, so instead of letting the sprinkler automatically water the plants, why not use the garden hose and them yourselves for an even more intense gardening workout and get a pail of water and dipper.

Running up and down the stairs

If you’re in the office and you’re going to 2 or 3 floors why not use the stairs and get the blood pumping and the heart beating faster. It wakes you up from the monotonous, boring cubicle life. Or when at home, and you need to get something upstairs instead of hauling everything in one go, Why not do it in 2 -3 trips. No need for fancy equipment or a gym membership. All it takes is creativity and how you interpret normal daily chores and activities as a competitive sport or a cinematic movie.

As your sweat and move a lot, your body generates heat, we cool ourselves by sweating. Sweating is good, but remember to replenish the fluids you lost. It said that drinking 8 glasses a day is good, I’d say yes and no because when you’re active you lose fluids in your body. So I’d say 3-4 litres a day (roughly 10-12 glasses a day) or more depending on the activity.

Don’t skip your morning coffee

Coffee, I love coffee! Don’t skip your morning coffee in fact, drink coffee at least 3 times a day. Not only would you have caffeine withdrawal if you skip often. Coffee or caffeine has lots of benefits.

Be active

This has lots of meaning to me being active means playing with my kids or being chased by a dog or running to the corner store to buy milk. Even doing household chores, like taking out the trash or vacuuming being active has a lot of perks and the younger generation doesn’t appreciate it, whether it be going from point a to point b a quick jog or bike helps a lot.

When you’re having fun, time flies so whether it’d be exercising or doing chores. As long as you look at it from a different perspective and enjoy it. You’ll soon come to realize that you’re staying fit, less stressed and happy.
